Alongside other musical projects (most notably Belone
Quartet) Benjamin Nerot took on the identity of THE HEALTHY
BOY
and began writing songs on his own in 2003. The appellation THE HEALTHY
BOY is an ironic commentary on the state of Nerot’s
health that to him seems all but absent in this period of his life.
In 2005, “A Two Steps Promenade” was released on
the label Kythibong. Lo-fi and recorded in urgency (or hastily
recorded), this record reveals the influence of the raw folk of the
first Palace Brothers records and the post-rock accents of American
bands like Gastr del Sol. The album, with its sometimes nervous and
sometimes silent guitar alongside a deep, blasé vocal, bears
witness to a certain absurdity to life.
In December of 2007, THE HEALTHY BOY recorded his second album
entitled
“Jusqu’a ce que nous soyons repus”. The
new songs recall the nonchalance of Leonard Cohen, the simplicity of
Micah P. Hinson, and the heady melodies of Jim O’Rourke.
The formula remains the same; THE HEALTHY BOY uses only his
voice
and his
guitar to depict his memories, his loves, his dreams, and his demons.
From this was born a minimalist music centered on the
duality of these
two instruments to create a kind of swaddled, cottony, melancholic
feeling that capsizes from time into a sea of incorporated/contained
anger. Duality sometimes amazingly betrayed on a few songs with
arrangements orchestrated and performed by the Zëro members
(ex-Bästard).
In September 2009, Benjamin Nerot and his mates,
decided to continue their common work adding a new musician to the
line-up and recording 4 new songs.
Under the name THE HEALTHY BOY AND THE BADASS MOTHERFUCKERS, "Tonnerre
Vendanges" Ep is released in april 2010.
